Manchester United Eye Move for £72m Midfielder

While Manchester United have a plethora of options in their midfield department, they are still considering a shock move for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti. At just 22 years of age, Verratti has the capability to instantly improve any squad. He might not be the most glamorous of midfielders of this age, however, Verratti would offer the Red devils same versatility as the likes of Paul Pogba.

While it is unheard of for a midfielder to get game-time in his early 20’s, Verratti was fortunate enough as manager Laurent Blanc showed his faith in him. The Italian has went on to repay the faith with his classy performances. He has made over 95 appearances for PSG over the course of three Seasons and is also an integral part of a squad that has won 3 Ligue 1 titles on a trot.

In addition to his performances that should prompt Manchester United to make their move, the age of the Italian would be a huge bonus for the club should they sign him. Though they recruited two central midfielders last summer, one of them was over 30. Looking at their options in the central midfield, both Michael Carrick and Bastian Schwiensteiger are standing on the wrong side of 30.

However, one thing that might end Red Devils’ interest in Italian is his high price tag. According to Verratti’s agent who values his client at the same level as Paul Pogba, the Italian won’t be leave PSG until his £72m release clause is met. Thus, if United want to inject their squad with youth, they will have to make Verratti the most expensive signing in the history of Premier League.
