3 Things Chelsea Must Do To Secure A Top Four Finish

Chelsea currently occupy 4th place on the Premier League table, but if they continue to perform as they have over the past few weeks then they will be sure to drop down the table, giving the likes of Manchester United and Sheffield United a clear path into 4th place.

Here’s a look at what Frank Lampard must do to ensure that his side secures a top four finish come the end of the season;

Sign A New Striker

Tammy Abraham may have established himself as a reliable goalscorer in the first half of the campaign, however, the 22-year-old has struggled to find consistency over the past couple of months, chipping in with just a few goals here and there.

Chelsea are in need of a striker that they can count on to score week after week. A player of Diego Costa’s ilk capable of leading the team to important wins. With the transfer window coming to a close soon, Chelsea have to act fast to sign a new striker.

Sign A Creative Mastermind

Eden Hazard

Back when Eden Hazard was still at Chelsea, the Blues often relied on him to create something out of nothing, and most of the time, he managed to produce the goods for Chelsea.

Now that Hazard has moved to Madrid, Chelsea lack a player of that caliber. At the moment, there’s no player in Frank Lampard’s lineup that can be relied upon to score or create goalscoring opportunities against tough opposition.

Sure, the likes of Pulisic and Willian might come up with something once in a while, but there’s no real consistency on that front.

Sign A New Left-Back

A common theme in this article has been for Chelsea to acquire new players, primarily because the major cause of their inconsistency this season is centred around the lack of quality within their lineup.

Lampard may have enjoyed a strong start to the season with this current group of players, but over the stretch of six months, they have proven to be largely unreliable, especially across certain positions including left-back.

Marcos Alonso and Emerson have both struggled to perform their defensive duties properly this season.

Whilst Alonso introduces a new dynamic to the team when he plays due to his attacking qualities, he often struggles to maintain his defensive duties.

Chelsea would do well to sign a new left-back before the window draws to a close with Ben Chillwell and Alex Telles appearing to be the most viable players for Lampard to sign.
