5 Reasons Why Tottenham Are Trailing Behind The Rest

Tottenham Hotspur are no longer a laughing stock in the Premier League. For the last two seasons, they were perhaps the best club in England, but have nothing to show for it. Losing points here and there, they lost their best chance to win the Premier League—twice.

And now, with Manchester City being at their rampant best, it seems unlike for Tottenham to ever make a claim for the top spot of the Premiership—at least for the foreseeable future. Currently, they are at 6thon the table and are 22 points behind league-leaders City and could lose out on a top 4 finish this season.

And here are 5 reasons why they are trailing.

5Dele Alli’s erratic form

Dele Alli

One of the reasons for Tottenham’s rise over the last two years was the presence of Dele Alli in the final third. The midfielder’s ability to barge into the box and find the back of the net earned the Lilywhites some crucial points.

And that’s something we haven’t seen a lot this season. From 37 Premier League games last season, he scored 18 goals—which is astounding for a midfielder—but has only 4 from 19 this time around. His erratic form has held back Tottenham.
