As the summer transfer window for the majority of European leagues is now closed, Manchester United can certainly look back on their business with great pride as the Premier League giants made some astute signings.

Erik ten Hag has made some much-needed changes to the squad by adding the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte. Co-owners INEOS have sufficiently backed Ten Hag in the transfer market and will now be hoping to see changes on the pitch, although things haven’t started well for Manchester United with two defeats in three Premier League games already.

The Red Devils also made good moves on the aspect of trimming their squad, as many of the players like Mason Greenwood, Hannibal Mejbri, Scott McTominay, Willy Kambwala, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, and many more, were released by the club or sold. One player who Man United were also willing to listen to offers for was Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen, 32, had dropped down the midfield pecking order after the emergence of academy talent Kobbie Mainoo in the second half of last season and had publicly revealed his desire for more game time. With just a year remaining on his contract, it was clear that the club would not offer the Denmark international an extension as he awaited offers.

Eredivisie giants Ajax have been keen on re-signing the 32-year-old playmaker since last month. However, Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots has already ended talk regarding his future, telling Dutch news outlet Voetbal International (h/t Fabrizio Romano): “We can end those speculations.”

Eriksen had a cracking time at Ajax, contributing 32 goals and 65 assists from only 163 appearances. Supposedly, the Eredivisie side could have benefitted from the Dane’s experience and creativity in their midfield ranks after an inconsistent start to the new campaign.

However, the creative midfielder is now staying put at Manchester United after his agent quashed links of a return to Ajax.
