Chelsea looks to be on the verge of a season revival, as new manager Guus Hiddink appears to have put the Blues on the road to recovery in a bid to mount a viable top-four challenge.
The Blues fans were displeased with the sacking of Jose Mourinho, but that seems to have paved the way for the decent results the London outfit have been in search of since the start of the season.
Chelsea fans started the season very optimistically as the Blues were not only defending champions but also the title favorites.
However, quite contrary to the expectations, Chelsea’s League campaign has been a far cry as they currently sit in the bottom half of the points table. Guus Hiddink, the interim boss, is well aware of the fact that it would take a mercurial winning run to get the Blues within reach of a top four spot.
What Chelsea is looking to do is quite unprecedented to say the very least as they would have to shy away from this season’s unpredictability and defeat every team that stands in their way, a feat that seems entirely implausible considering how well the other teams in the league have set-up this season.
Chelsea will need an average 2.6 points per game from here on if they want to have any real chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
The Stamford Bridge outfit still have 54 points to play for, but it’s quite clear that they’ll need a minimum of 47 to reach the 70 point mark that saw United finish fourth last season.
Hiddink will definitely be hoping for the sides at the top of the table to experience one or two slip-ups so that Chelsea can begin to close the wide gap between the top four and their current league position.
The 3-0 win against Crystal Palace undoubtedly gave the Chelsea players all the motivation and belief they need to mount a viable season revival.
The likes of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, and Oscar seem to be back to their best which has left many to believe that they were the main culprits behind Mourinho’s downfall. However, leaving the harsh criticism aside, fans have moved on and are ready to support the Blues as they look to make a serious attempt to be amongst top four.
Although the one key player who doesn’t seem to have found his feet this season is Eden Hazard. The Belgian professional who was player of the season last year is just a bench warmer this season.
Hazard has been left out of the Chelsea squad on a number of occasions this season because of his poor performances and with the January transfer window open, the possibility of Hazard leaving Chelsea appears to be huge.
Chelsea will need Hazard playing at his utmost best if they want to mount a proper top four challenge, but at the moment all Guus Hiddink can do is to take every game as it comes and hope for the best.
