Clubs Lose Race Against Time in High Profile Transfer

Confusion reigns over the transfer of goalkeeper David De Gea from Old Trafford to Santiago Bernabeu after local media reported that deal has fell through because relevant documentation was not submitted to La Liga headquarters within stipulated time.

The Spain International had even signed a contract with his new employers, but the clubs failed to register the deal with the Spanish league before the clock ticked past the transfer deadline on Monday night.

However, some other reports suggested that the deal is still intact as the selling party had submitted the necessary paperwork one minute before the deadline and is expecting the transfer to go through as desired.

United had agreed a deal with La-Liga giants that will see Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas moving the other way.

Neither of the two clubs has commented on the media reports.

If the transfer has fallen apart, it will leave the ace goalkeeper in a tricky situation as United boss Louis van Gaal has not played him in this season thus far.

The former Atletico Madrid keeper has been on the watchlist of La-Liga Giants as a long-term replacement for the former club captain and Spain team-mate Iker Casillas, who joined Porto in July.

The Spaniard was last week selected by Spain for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia although national coach Vicente Del Bosque indicated he could lose his place in the squad if his club situation remained unresolved.
