One of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window saw Diego Costa attempting to force a move away from Chelsea after he was frozen out of the squad by Antonio Conte. It was made clear from the start of the saga that the Spanish striker wanted to return to Madrid to play for Diego Simeone’s Atletico side.

His Chelsea career isn’t something that should be forgotten in a hurry as he scored 52 Premier League goals in just 89 top-flight games. His impact at Stamford Bridge was fantastic, and he quickly became a fans’ favourite in West London with chants of “Diego, Diego, Diego” from the Shed End ringing around the ground every other weekend for three seasons.

He only managed seven goals outside of the league and just two in the Champions League, but there were plenty of brilliant finishes during his spell in England, whether they were from five yards out or 25 yards. We look at his best five.

Yet another top-class goal from Diego Costa in Chelsea’s most recent title-winning campaign and his second of the game as they ran out 4-2 winners. This one wasn’t so much about the individual quality of the 28-year-old but more the unbelievable fast-paced passing play of his team in the build-up. Two lovely exchanges sparked by Costa saw him seamlessly slip into the 18-yard box before calmly slotting the ball into Fraser Forster’s near side.
