Dortmund Set to End Bayern’s Spell of Dominance

Borussia Dortmund seems close to finding the formula that would see them take over from Bayern Munich in terms of being the Bundesliga’s most dominant force.

Bayern Munich have enjoyed monopolized success over the last four years in the Bundesliga and the only team that has displayed the ability to viably challenge Bayern is Dortmund.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Dortmund were also a force to be reckoned with as they earned the title of the ‘second best team in the land’ and they still are at the moment even though Klopp has gone away to the Premier League to ply his trade. Klopp endured a disappointing last season at Dortmund as Der BVB finished way off their usual 2nd place spot with a 7th place finish.

Tomas Tuchel, the new boss at the Signal Iduna Park, has enjoyed a fine start to the life in Bundesliga with Dortmund even though he’s on course to steering Der BVB to a second place finish once again.

Dortmund’s prolificacy levels have increased greatly under Tuchel this season, given the fact that Dortmund are currently the Bundesliga’s most proficient attacking outfit at the moment.

Bayern are used to holding that feat up until the end of the season but Der BVB’s attacking masterclass seems to have manifested itself as opposed to Bayern Munich’s, although it’s well worth noting that Bayern have only scored one goal less than Dortmund in the League this season.

The Bavarian giants, however, have the best defensive record in the League and Dortmund’s 28 goals conceded is a far cry from Bayern’s 13 goals conceded.

It would be nearly impossible for Dortmund to match Bayern’s defensive record in the near future so I reckon Tuchel’s men should focus more on outscoring the ogre-like Bayern Munich.

Dortmund and Bayern are most definitely not equal in terms of finances as the Bayern boasts of a large amount of resources for use in the transfer window and in terms of luring players with astronomically high wages.

Bayern flexed their finances at Dortmund when they secured the signings of two of their best players in the last five years – Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze, although with the way things are panning out Gotze might be on his way to a reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Dortmund aren’t always active when the transfer window opens, and with good reason as they possess some of the finest players the Bundesliga has to offer.

The likes of Marco Reus, Aubumayeng, and Mhkitarian have been absolutely sensational this season, but Aubumayeng has been the pick of players with his phenomenal tally of 37 goals In 40 games for both club and country. With a goal return like that, it’s no wonder why some Premier Clubs are rumored to be in for his services.

At the moment, Dortmund are just 5 points away from the 1st place and with a handful of games still yet to be played, the possibility of catching up to the Bavarian giants remains quite plausible.

But if Tuchel’s side eventually finishes in 2nd place as expected then the Dortmund fans will be able to take some positives out of that occurrence knowing fully well that their team is on the road to a potential Bundesliga trophy next season.
