Liverpool Plot Shock Move for Man United’s Ashley Young

Liverpool are plotting a shock move for Manchester United winger Ashley Young, according to Daily Star.

The 30-year-old England international, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, is currently in talks with the Old Trafford chiefs over a new contract.

The winger, who had arrived at United from Aston Villa in 2011 for a fee between £15 million and £20 million, has one year remaining on his £120,000-a-week contract at the club.

The former Watford winger is said to be hopeful of signing a three-year extension deal at Old Trafford on fresh terms. However, with Louis Van Gaal reportedly keen to sign Barcelona winger Pedro this summer, his future at the club has become a subject of intense speculation.

Young scored two goals and created 34 chances in 26 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season, keeping club’s record £59.7m signing Angle Di Maria on the bench for most of the term.

Di Maria, who managed just three goals in 27 appearances in his breakthrough campaign in English topflight, is set to complete a switch to French champions Paris Saint German this summer.

The deal is understood to be thrashed out for around £44million, which is significantly less than what United paid to Real Madrid a year ago.

The Red Devils will fund the money earned from Argentine’s sale for the potential purchase of Pedro.

They have not yet officially lodged a bid for the Spain international but are said to be ready to meet his £22m buyout clause.
