AC Milan’s 3-0 victory over Lecce at San Siro was a night to remember for Theo Hernandez, who not only shone on the pitch but also reached a significant personal milestone.

The French full-back delivered an exceptional performance against Lecce, providing an assist for Alvaro Morata’s opening goal and scoring a powerful second goal himself, further sealing Milan’s victory. However, what truly stood out was the recognition Hernandez received from a legend of the club—Paolo Maldini.

Hernandez’s goal against Lecce was his 29th for AC Milan, a tally that places him alongside Maldini as the highest-scoring defender in the club’s Serie A history.

Achieving this feat in just five years, Hernandez matched the record held by his idol and the man who had played a pivotal role in bringing him to Milan from Real Madrid in 2019.

After the match, as highlighted by Calciomercato, Hernandez took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion, posting: “A victory and 29 goals with Milan: happy to equal my idol!! FORZA MILAN.”

The post quickly attracted praise from teammates and fans alike, but it was the comment from Maldini himself that stole the spotlight.

The Milan legend offered heartfelt congratulations to Hernandez, humorously pointing out the speed with which the Frenchman had equaled his record. “Great Theo,” Maldini wrote. “The only small difference is that it took me 25 years, while it only took you 5. You’re special.”

Rafael Leao and Alvaro Morata, both of whom played key roles in the match, also chimed in under Hernandez’s post. Leao commented, “It’s easy with you,” while Morata offered an intriguing behind-the-scenes detail. The Spanish striker hinted at his involvement in Theo’s transfer to Milan, writing: “Paolo, I didn’t give you bad advice in the end.”

For the €60m-rated French defender, this achievement holds immense significance, both professionally and personally. Matching Maldini, a club legend and his idol, solidifies his growing legacy at AC Milan.

As Hernandez continues to make his mark in the red and black, the praise from a figure like Maldini only further underscores his importance to the club and his potential to carve out his own place in Milan’s storied history.
