There is still a significant period of time remaining in the current transfer window, but Real Madrid have already completed their most preferred operations. The Merengues completed the blockbuster signing of Kylian Mbappe, after years of efforts made for this acquisition.
However, Los Blancos have also suffered a major setback in the market as they lost out on their main center-back target, Leny Yoro. The defender has joined Manchester United from Lille, thus significantly disrupting Real Madrid’s plans.
As things stand, The Athletic reports that The Vikings still have three main positions they want to reinforce in this summer transfer window, i.e., center-back, left-back, and goalkeeper.
For the center-back position, the report mentions that one of the names being considered by Real Madrid is from Serie A. Similarly, the Merengues have also discussed the possibility of bringing the Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte from Al-Nassr.
Although an agreement can easily be reached with the Saudi club, the player’s high wages, currently standing at around €20 million, might be an obstacle too great for Real Madrid.
Thus, unless an interesting market opportunity arises, the Merengues will go into the next season with the backline of Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Jesus Vallejo, with Aurelien Tchouameni as another stopgap option.
For the goalkeeping position, Lunin’s decision about his future will determine the club’s plans. Courtois’ return means he will not have a lot of minutes on the pitch next season, and he wants to retain a leading role going forward after having emerged as a star in last year’s La Liga and UCL campaigns. He has a contract till 2025 with Madrid, and his agent is looking at the Premier League to get an offer.
If the Ukrainian decides to leave, Kepa Arrizabalaga will be an option for Los Blancos. The Spaniard was keen to remain at the Spanish club this summer, but he still has a year left on his Chelsea contract, and the Saudi side Al-Ittihad is also negotiating for his signing.
Alphonso Davies still remains a target for Real Madrid for the left-back position, especially as his renewal negotiations with Bayern Munich are not going exactly as planned.
Ferland Mendy’s future is also not entirely secure. The coaching staff wants him to stay, but the Merengues are yet to open negotiations for a new contract.
