Strongest Possible Man United Lineup To Face Old Rivals

Date:

The Premier League returns to reignite an old rivalry in north London this weekend as Arsenal welcomes title frontrunners Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

A Man United vs. Arsenal fixture used to be a spicier affair a decade ago when both were real title challengers year-after-year that is no more a case now. However, the contest between two top-rated clubs in English Premier League still attracts a lot of fanfare and carries plenty of significance.

The Red Devils are proudly sitting atop of the League table for the first time since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, but the Gunners are not far away either.

Let us have a look what may be strongest possible Man United starting lineup and formation for Saturday’s matchup against the old rivals.

Goalkeeper – David De Gea

De Gea has picked from where he left off last season. At this point, only an injury can keep the Spanish international out of the team.

Right Back – Matteo Darmian

Italian international has been impressive since joining the Red Devils in summer. His rival Antonio Valencia is still struggling to adapt to the position.

Left back – Ashley Young

With Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw out injured, the English International could fill in at left back.

Centre Back – Chris Smalling

Smalling has been in astonishing form so far this season. He will be called upon to play at the heart of United’s defence.

Centre Back – Daley Blind

The Dutch Utility man formed an excellent partnership alongside Chris Smalling at Centre Back. There is no reason to change this pairing at this stage of the season.

Central Midfield – Michael Carrick

The experienced English international was crucial in United’s revival last season. He brings plenty of experience to the club. He should get the nod ahead of summer signing Morgan Schneiderlin.

Central Midfield – Bastian Schweinsteiger

The Germen Legend has plenty of experience under his belt. He is a real leader on the pitch.

Left Wing – Memphis Depay

Young Dutch international is enjoying a fine run at United. Red Devil fans have already likened him to Cristiano Ronaldo. Having scored three goals in 9 appearances this season, he is already an integral part of United’s starting XI.

Right Wing – Juan Mata

Mata has been in superb form since the beginning of this season. He has directly more than half of United’s goals in Premier League this season. The match against Wolfsburg on Wednesday was a reminder of how good he is.

Central Attacking Midfielder – Wayne Rooney

He may be struggling to adapt the role of no.10, but Rooney is still one of the biggest stars of Manchester United. The Red Devils captain scored his first Premier League goal of this season last weekend against Sunderland. He will be hoping to build on from that.

Striker – Anthony Martial

The French teenager continues to impress Red Devil fans with astonishing displays. He surely will be van Gaal’s first choice No.9.
