Three Players PSG Need to Sign in January

Date:

With the January transfer window just a month away, PSG will be keen on bolstering their ranks with some new signings.

Due to the vast amount of money PSG have at their disposal and the fact that players are almost guaranteed a medal every season, many players want to pack up their bags and take to France.

However, things aren’t going smoothly for PSG as they find themselves 3rd in the Ligue 1 standings behind Monaco and more surprisingly, Nice.

The gap at the top may only be a point, but this is unfamiliar territory for PSG who won the 2015-16 championship with two months to spare, impressive! So, despite the arrivals of Hatem Ben Arfa, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Jesé and Thomas Meunier for a total sum of 57 million Euros, PSG look like they need to add something else to their side.

Here are three players PSG need to sign in January in a bid to bolster their ranks.

Faouzi Ghoulam, Napoli

The Algerian left-back has impressed many with his performances in Italy. With Layvin Kurzawa currently injured, PSG has had to rely on the 35-year-old Maxwell to deputise in his place, but the Parisians could attempt to sign Ghoulam in January.

Ghoulam is known for his versatility and ability to pass the ball. He can operate as a left back, left wing back or even as a left winger who would give Unai Emery many options on the left flank.

This season, in Serie A, Ghoulam has completed 87.6% of his passing and contributed three assists in 12 appearances for Napoli, not bad for a left back!

A passing statistic is all well and good but the passes that Ghoulam plays are direct and decisive which are exactly what Emery needs, as he looks to get the best out of Edinson Cavani.

Keep your eyes peeled as a deal could happen soon with Napoli already lining up replacements for Ghoulam.

Adam Lallana, Liverpool

With reports suggesting that Mauro Veratti is stifled in France, the Italy international might be on his way out of Paris which in turn would open up a spot in PSG’s midfield. Adam Lallana could be the man to occupy that vacancy.

Although Veratti is a defensive-minded player, Unai Emery would be able to drop Blaise Matuidi into his position and deploy Lallana in a wide position or the central position of Emery’s favoured 4-2-3-1.

Lallana would provide cover and competition for the likes of Angel Di Maria, Javier Pastore and Hatem Ben Arfa but his commitment could be the key factor to breaking into the PSG starting 11.

Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool has had a tremendous effect on Adam Lallana – he’s seemingly a different player.

Lallana broke the Premier League record for ground covered as he managed to travel 12.5km in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham in August.

Reports suggest that Liverpool values the tricky midfielder at an astonishing £40 million. It is yet to be seen if a bid will materialise, but Lallana would provide some vital service to Cavani, as the England international has provided five assists in 11 league appearances for his club.

But Liverpool would be reluctant to let him go judging by how integral he is to Liverpool’s style of play.

Lionel Messi, Barcelona

Who wouldn’t want to sign Lionel Messi? The departure of Lionel Messi would be a huge shock to the footballing world and is unlikely to happen anytime soon, but the constant speculation seems to surround Lionel Messi and PSG.

Although the Barcelona forward still has 18 months left on his current contract, this doesn’t mean the transfer mill stops running.

Apparently, PSG’s Director of Football, Patrick Kluivert has made contact with Messi’s father about a move to the French capital, which would add a crazy new dimension to Emery’s PSG but how would Messi fit into the PSG side? A silly question, I hear you say as Messi is the best player in the world and can play for any team in the world.

Messi’s arrival could upset Cavani who would be playing second fiddle to the Argentine forward.
