Three Players PSG Need to Sign in the Summer

Date:

PSG have endured a relatively miserable season by their exceedingly high standards.

After running away with the title last season and coming close to reaching their first Champions League semi-final, everyone at the club was excited to see them push on, both in France and in Europe.

However, new coach Unai Emery has seen his club relinquish their domestic title and miss out on the Champions League trophy.

While they won the French League Cup and have the Coupe de France Final still to come, this season has shown deep flaws in Emery’s squad. Parisians surely need to strengthen their lineup this summer. With that in mind, we take a look at three possible targets that could help them bounce back to the top not only in France but Europe as well.

Alban Lafont – Toulouse – Goalkeeper:

While PSG have two relatively talented goalies in Kevin Trapp and Alphonse Areola, neither has ever actually assumed the mantle of a top Gk for the Parisians.

Trapp in particular always seems to have a mistake in him, and Areola has slipped out of first team contention.

Lafont is the youngest goalkeeper to ever play in Ligue 1 and is currently just 18-years-old. Despite his tender age he has already played an astonishing 60 games for Toulouse.

He knows the league and has lots of experience and tremendous potential. As Donnarumma is showing at AC Milan, investing in a talent at a young age can reap huge rewards, and PSG should really consider Lafont.

Tranfermarkt put his value at €6.5 million, he would surely cost a bit more than that but would still be a bargain buy for PSG.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf- Benfica- Centre Back

As with the goalkeeping position, PSG already have capable centre backs. However, with Thiago Silva not getting any younger, Marquinhos still not fully convincing and the tender age of Presnel Kimpembe, PSG could do with improvements at the back.

As their defeat to Barcelona showed, they need someone who can keep calm and remain solid in the face of attacking pressure and Lindelöf, during his time at Benfica, has proven he can do that.

Lindelöf is only 22-years-old but has a wealth of experience having played 130 professional matches including 12 in the Champions League. He was a key player in Sweden winning the U-21 European Championships in 2015. He has been linked with Manchester United for around €45 million by Aftonbladet but PSG would likely to be able to tempt him to Paris.

Alexis Sanchez- Arsenal – Forward:

Edison Cavani has had a superb season thus far, scoring 35 goals for PSG. However, he cannot do everything on his, own, and the Parisians have been hit by the loss of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

At the time of writing, they have scored twenty goals less than last season which has cost them in the biggest games. Alexis appears to be unsettled at Arsenal and is a guaranteed goalscorer having bagged 21 this season in the Premier League.

He also has Champions League experience and would be a signing that gets the fans excited. His work rate and tenacity would also improve a PSG side that often seems to cruise through matches and lose focus. Cavani has also given this deal his blessing; he is quoted in the Metro as saying that Alexis would be ‘welcome’ in Paris. With only a year left on his contract, The Mirror suggest PSG may be able to prise him away for under £60 million.
