The season has almost reached mid-season, and it is almost time that we start thinking about the top contenders for the prestigious player of the year awards. It is no doubt that this season has been one of the strangest one in the Premier League History. At the top of the table, we have surprise leaders in the form of Leicester City whereas last season’s Champions, Chelsea, are surprisingly battling out relegation after 16 games. There have been exceptional players who have lightened the Premier League with their sizzling performances. Let’s take a look at the top five contenders for the Player of the season:

Kevin De BruyneKevin De Bruyne

The former Chelsea man’s return to the Premier League has been a fruitful one. The Belgian has set the league on fire with his impressive performances for the Citizens. The central attacking midfielder has both assisted and scored at a consistent rate for the blues of Manchester. De Bruyne has been full of Charisma for Manchester City, and if he continues to play at a similar pace, he could well be within the reach of the prestigious award.

Olivier GiroudOlivier Giroud

The inclusion of Olivier Giroud may come as a surprise to many, but one cannot change the fact that the Gunner has been amazing in the past few matches. The Arsenal star was always on the hit-list of both fans and journalists for his lack of goals until the start of this season. The forward has shown glimpses of his capabilities this season, and if he continues to score the same rate, he could have a shot to become a Player of the Season.

Mesut Ozilmesut-ozil

Ever since his arrival at the Emirates, Ozil has been accused of playing far below his potential. However, things have changed this season. The central attacking midfielder has been the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League, if not in Europe. He has been lively, and he has created opportunities with his deadly through balls. Whenever Ozil has the ball, Arsenal has looked dangerous. If he extends his good run till the end of the season, there will be no doubt about his chances at the POTY award.

Riyad MahrezRiyad-Mahrez

Leicester City has a gem of a player in the form of Riyad Mahrez. The 24-year-old attacking player has undoubtedly filled the spaces of Eden Hazard this season. He is flying with confidence this season for the Foxes. Riyad Mahrez has both assisted and scored goals consistently this season. One can only wonder how Leicester City managed to buy the player for less than a million as he is worth at least 20 million if one looks at his current form. If he stays at Leicester after the January transfer window, he will be one of the favourite to win the POTY award.

Jamie Vardy jamie-verdy

There are no words to describe Vardy’s performances this season. His performances have been stupenda-fantabulously-fantastic this season. He has been the most consistent score the EPL has ever seen. He currently maintains a goal per game ratio, and if he carries on at such an astounding rate, one can expect him to break, many records this season. His partnership with Riyad Mahrez has been fantastic, and he will be the favorite to land the Player of the season award this season.
