Tottenham Boss Jubiliant Over Debutant’s Performance

Date:

Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino is impressed by the performance debutant Son Heung-Min displayed during the 1-0 triumph against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

A late strike from Ryan Mason helped Tottenham set up their first victory of the new season and climb to 12th place in the Premier League table.

The South Korea international arrived at White Hart Laned from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer and was deployed alongside Dele Allion, on the right side of a 4-2-3-1 formation against the Black Cats.

The versatile striker made his presence felt with his several smart touches and encouraging passing interchanges before the boss decided to withdraw him after an hour of play.

“I am very happy with Son; he played well. He is a good player for us,” a visibly delighted Pochettino said.

“We are very pleased with our performance. It was a hard game for us, open game, but I think we dominated it, and we deserved to win the match,” he added.

After sealing the maiden victory of the season, the Argentine coach is keen to build a winning momentum and appears confident that his side would launch a serious offensive on the title this season.

It was widely expected that South Korean will share goalscoring burden with Harry Kane, who hasn’t scored in the new season thus far. The English professional failed to open his account against the Black Cats as well despite finding several opportunities in front of goal.

Tottenham next faces Qarabag FK in their first Europa League group fixture on Thursday night before they lock horns with Crystal Palace in London Derby on Premier League Matchday 6.
