Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to a third successive Premier League victory when they welcome a wounded but high flying Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked indomitable for the first few weeks of the season, but a defeat to Juventus in the Champions League followed by embarrassment against the Hammers has significantly impaired their campaign.

The Citizens now merely two points clear of Man United at the top of the table.

Spurs suffered a setback against Arsenal in the third round of League Cup on Wednesday, but that was only their second loss of the season.

The form of the two rival strikers would be Key to Saturday’s clash. Neither Harry Kane nor Sergio Aguero has been firing this season thus far. Indeed, the England international is yet to score for his club this season, prompting fears that he could prove to be a one season wonder.

Team News

Many of Tottenham players rested for the game against Arsenal in the third round of Capital One Cup on Wednesday are expected to make a comeback for Saturday’s marquee clash at White Hart Lane.

Summer signing Son Heung-min, Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli were all dropped from the starting lineup for the midweek clash.

Ryan Mason, Alex Pritchard, Nabil Bentaleb, Mousa Dembele all remain sidelined with ankle injuries.

Manchester City boss Pellegrini is not sure about his starting lineup as he awaits an update regarding fitness status of eight players that missed the League Cup victory over Sunderland.

Strikers Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfried Bony are confirmed absentees while full-backs Kelechi Iheanacho, Gael Clichy, and midfielder Fabian Delph are longer-term casualties.

The Citizens’ boss may have to go for the Spurs challenge without some of his key first-team members including skipper Kompany, David Silva and Eliaquim Mangala, who all missed the visit to Sunderland.

Man City skipper Vincent Kompany has recovered from the calf injury and is set to return in Saturday’s marquee clash with Sky Blues.

Playmaker Samir Nasri is also fit again and available for selection.

Good news coming from Citizens camp is that Sergio Aguero has fully recovered from the injury he picked up during the game against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago and is ready to lead the line at White Hart Lane.

The Argentina striker has scored ten times in seven Premier League outings against the Spurs thus far.
