There’s always a flurry of speculation on deadline day, but only a small portion of those rumours materialise into transfers. With today the deadline day, we take a look at some clubs in dire need of a deal or two.

Hull

The Tigers are currently on a high, but with the lack of quality players and real squad depth in the team, they need reinforcements.

Yesterday the welcome announcement of Ryan Mason and Will Keane from Spurs and Man United respectively eased the strain on a threadbare squad.

Last season only three sides scored more goals than Hull, while only one team conceded fewer. This suggests that they do not have an obvious area in need of improvement.

Instead, Mike Phelan may hope to add a general cover to the squad. With reports suggesting, he will look to fill his two remain loan gaps in the squad.

Sunderland

Sunderland are by their manager’s own admission, in a relegation fight. They need quality additions today in a number of areas.

Reports have emerged this morning that the club is in negotiations with French club Lorient over the club record transfer of Didier Ndong.

Sunderland may also look for cover at goalkeeper with Vito Mannone expected to be out for up to three months.

A deadline day move for veteran keeper John Ruddy is also a possibility. The 29-year-old is one of Norwich’s’ longest-serving players having joined from Everton in 2010.

With survival at stake for Moyes and Sunderland, today could be pivotal in determining where the Black Cats ply their trade next season.

Chelsea

Chelsea have continued their trend of loaning out everyone in their possession under the age of 22. Yesterday they announced another loan deal for youngster Kennedy who joins Watford for the remainder of the season.

With regard to incoming arrivals on deadline day, without a doubt, the biggest story is the possible return of David Luiz. Sold to PSG for £50m two years ago, he is the prime target of Conte on deadline day.

With a reported £30m bid made for their former man expect the drama to go to the wire at Stamford Bridge tonight.
