West Ham 2-1 Chelsea: Player Ratings

Date:

Another giant killing for West Ham, another slump for Chelsea as the Hammers stunned Chelsea to their 5th defeat in the last 10 games in the Premier League. While West Ham continued their journey towards the top, Chelsea was left struggling at the bottom of Barclays Premier League.

Here are the player ratings from a famous win for West Ham.

West Ham

While that was a memorable win for the Hammers, they would be even more delighted to see how their players ranked.

Adrian – 8

While the headlines will be stolen by the header of Andy Carroll, the fact that Adrian played a huge part in their win couldn’t be neglected. He did a fairly commendable job of keeping Chelsea at bay in testing times in the first half.

Carl Jenkinson – 6

Former Arsenal player, Carl Jenkinson did little to provide assurance to his team-mates today.

James Tomkins – 6

While there were many West Ham players who were responsible for the Chelsea opener, Tomkins was the chief culprit as he provided Gary Cahill space inside his own half.

James Collins – 7

Assigned to the task of stopping an in-form Diego Costa by his boss today, Collins did a fairly commendable job.

Antoine Cresswell – 7

He performed some brilliant contributions to his team-mates today, however, none of them could be matched with the cross that was turned into a match-winner by Andy Carroll.

Mark Noble – 6

While he has been controlling the midfield for Hammers nicely this Season, his lack of pace was epitomized by the Chelsea midfield today.

Cheikhou Kouyate   -6

A player who has been in top form all this Season, he contained Cesc Fabregas really well throughout the game today.

Mauro Zarate – 9

Had a goal today – could have had more if he would have converted the one on one chance, Zarate was the man of the match for Hammers today.

Dimitri Payet – 7

Looking at his reputation coming into this game, Payer failed to justify the hype which was built around him.

Manuel Lanzini – 7

Being one of the two players who have been available for the resurgence of West Ham this Season, Lanzini deserved the standing ovation which he got from the West Ham fans today.

Diafra Sakho – 5

When in form he could do unimaginable things, however, today is not a day for Sakho to remember on a personal basis.

Chelsea

As you might have predicted from the final score-line, Chelsea players did little to get a good rating today …

Asmir Begovic – 5

For a keeper who conceded two goals today, Asmir Begovic might not disagree with the rating with which he is given here.

Kurt Zouma – 7

Played on the right side of the Chelsea defense, Zouma managed some brilliant interceptions today. It was his header that came inches close to being the leveler for Chelsea in the first half.

Gary Cahill – 7

Being a central defender, you need to be extremely lucky to get a 7- rating even after you have conceded 2 goals today. However, it was more due to his leveler than the defending that earned the Englishman a respectable rating in this game.

John Terry – 4

As the scoreline might suggest you, the Chelsea Captain wasn’t at his best today.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 5

Nearly getting himself a red card in the process, the Spanish left-back did little to stop Manuel Lanzini who was barging on time and again from the left flank.

Ramires – 5

Injury to Pedro meant that Mourinho was forced to pick Ramires, however, the Brazilian did little to fortify the faith which his manager showed in him.

Nemanja Matic – 4

With a silly red card, Matic removed any hopes of Chelsea coming back into the game from 1-0 down.

Cesc Fabregas – 5

Though his substitution at half time was more of a tactical decision, Fabregas failed to impress the Chelsea folklore today.

Willian – 6

Arguably the best player in Chelsea shirt this Season, Willian missed some crucial spot-kicks to provide Chelsea with some respite today.

Hazard – 5

While Mourinho has given back to Hazard his position in the starting lineup, the Belgian playmaker is still running way short of confidence that was associated with him last Season.

Diego Costa -5

Coming into this game, he was in fine form with a direct involvement of both of Chelsea’s goals against Aston Villa last weekend. But the Spaniard showed no signs of it against the Hammers today.
