Will Mourinho Be Able To Break The Hawthorns Jinx?

Chelsea will be looking to upturn their stuttering start to the title defence when they take on West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s men have made worst ever start to the new Premier League season since 1998/99 after drawing the season opener against Swansea only to be comprehensively beaten by title rivals Manchester City next weekend.

Having won the last season quite convincingly, many thought that they would start the season well and smoothly sail through their first few challenges.

However, It has been far from a smooth ride for the Champions as they are yet to find a victory in the new campaign.

After snatching Pedro from the jaws of Louis van Gaal, Mourinho would hope that club’s shock summer signing will produce some miraculous performance when they meet Baggies over the weekend.

Interestingly, with three losses and one draw, the Hawthorns have been one of the unhappiest grounds for Chelsea since 2011 and two of those three losses preceded manager firings.

While Mourinho isn’t at all likely to meet the same fate as Andre Villas-Boas or Roberto Di Matteo did, he too hasn’t managed to break the jinx by winning a game there since returning to Chelsea.

So the big question remains whether the Blues will be able to turn the tide against them by claiming first League victory of the season, breaking the Hawthorns jinx in the process?

However, that will not be an easy task. Despite a difference of talent on paper, West Brom lost to Chelsea only once in their last four meetings – with two of those four ending in draws.

The North London may take heart from the fact that West Brom has had a similarly slow start to the season, only securing one point in its first two matches.
