Will Sheffield Wednesday Finish in the Playoff Places?

Date:

Sheffield Wednesday have a realistic chance of returning to the top flight for the first time since the turn of the Millennium.

For such a big club with strong foundations, this is a huge amount of time away from the top flight. However, they appear keen on making their way back into the Premier League this term.

The Owls currently sit in 6th place in the Championship standings.

They’re in a great position with ten games to go until the end of the season, but with Fulham just a mere five points adrift, Sheffield Wednesday need to keep their performance levels up.

One problem that Sheffield face at the moment is consistency.

Since mid-February, Wednesday have slipped to two losses, one draw and just one win.

This is a stark contrast to the excellent form they were showing prior to this poor run as they had notched up four wins on the trot. Sheffield Wednesday must recover that form soon in a bid to make the playoffs.

On Tuesday night, the club missed a tremendous opportunity to move further away from Fulham as they were held to a draw by the relegation-threatened Burton Albion.

The loyal fans are rightly demanding more from the players at this critical stage of the season. So, the players must respond to the rallying cries of the club’s supporters.

Players such as Ross Wallace, Jordan Rhodes and Keiren Westwood need to step up for Sheffield Wednesday and use all their Championship experience to get them over the line.

After all, Wallace and Rhodes have tasted promotion to the Premier League with their former sides Burnley and Middlesbrough respectively.

A win against Aston Villa this weekend could see The Owls move up as high as 4th place if other results go their way.

With just ten games left in the season, Sheffield Wednesday need to improve their on-pitch displays if they are to make one of the four playoff places.

They need to better their recent results and find the form they had in December when they suffered just one defeat in six games; albeit hoping that a win for Reading is not on the cards again.

Scrappy 1-0 wins will make all the difference in their push for promotion as they attempt to consolidate their place in the playoffs.

Sheffield Wednesday have just about enough about them to finish within the playoff spots as they boast of some of the most experienced players in the league.

The Onus is now on The Owls to pick up form and secure a top-six finish in the Championship.
