3 Players Chelsea Should Sign To Seal Second Spot

In La Liga, Barcelona are cruising away with the league title and have further strengthened their team with the signings of Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina. That is not all, they are still being linked with Arthur and Antoine Griezmann and are expected to get at least one of the two.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Manchester City have a 15 point lead over nearest rival Manchester United and are on course to win the title. Chelsea currently sit at 3 with 47 points—also 15 behind City but with an extra game played—so it can be claimed that they are out of the title race.

The Blues are the reigning champions, and it seems as though they are powerless to resist the Etihad outfit from winning the league title. As a result, their focus should now shift towards a second-place finish, which also looks like a difficult task for the Blues as 5 clubs are vying for that spot.

And here are the 3 players that can help them with it.

JorginhoJorginho Napoli

While Chelsea might have some strong midfielders in the mould of N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko, they don’t really have someone that can provide creativity from deep. Cesc Fabregas is a name that could be brought up here, but he is not really very consistent in a limited role and needs to be given freedom in order to excel.

In such a position, Chelsea need to sign someone who can keep the tempo in the middle while also not messing up the system. And there is none better than Jorginho. Antonio Conte should know about him inside out as the Italo-Brazilian plies his trade in Serie A.

As a result, a marriage between Jorginho and Chelsea could be successful as he is the type of player that can help Chelsea play according to Conte’s vision.

Leon BaileyLeon Bailey Chelsea

It is true that Chelsea have a supreme auxiliary winger in Eden Hazard. His trickery from the left is always something that disrupts the opponents. However, the right flank is often without inspiration and Leverkusen star Leon Bailey could fill up that void.

The 20-year-old has been in stunning form this season, playing on the flanks for Leverkusen. He tormented Bayern Munich in their previous game and looks destined to become a world-class player very soon.

On top of that, he can also play as a left-back—something that he often does at Bayer.

Mauro IcardiMauro Icardi

Alvaro Morata might have been signed for a lot of money by Chelsea, but the Spaniard has shown thus far that he might not be able to take all the scoring load on himself. Indeed, the former Real Madrid man has only scored twice since September as Chelsea have struggled to find the goals that come from someone else’s boots.

As a result, they need to sign someone who can share the workload with Morata—and Mauro Icardi could be that player. The Inter man seems to be enjoying the best years of his career, scoring goals in almost every game, and could add an extra dimension in Chelsea’s attack.

  1. good luck with that.
they have been cheap the last three transfer windows, made ridiculously mediocre signings and are pinning the blame on conte, who they have led by the nose, ostrasised and humiliated. in fact they have been getting their’s money worth all along. kicking conte out will not replenish the energy of the aging jaded “superstars” or improve the substandard misfits. fact is, the stripped down skeletal chelsea crew is unraveling. in view of city, liverpool, spurs, man. u.’s performance, i do not see chelsea making the top 4, and i hope they do not, so somebody finally accepts reality, (doubt it). well, isn’t it high time to sign andy caroll, we have barca to eliminate.
and a final question: who would hazard, kante, courtois, azpy, alonso rather play with in the same team – ronaldo, isco, modrich, asensio or bakayoko, drinkwater, kenedy, luiz?
almost forgot. loaning out business doing great! keep it up.

  2. We have 10 midfield players and not one decent striker I’d sign aubameyang and bailey and drop bakayoko put hazard in behind the top two of aubameyang and morata with barkley and Kante holding midfield Moses on right then Christensen , cahill and Dave at the back Courtois in goal
