Everton suffered a turbulent start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign under the management of Ronald Koeman, but new manager Sam Allardyce has already turned their fortunes around. When Allardyce was appointed, the Toffees found themselves just outside the relegation zone and had genuine concerns about relegation.

However, Allardyce is so far unbeaten in the five matches that he has taken charge of so far in all competitions which now sees Everton sat comfortably in ninth place in the top flight. They will now be looking up rather than down for the remainder of the campaign and will be looking to push on over the Christmas period.

We take a look at three players that Everton should target in January to help build on Allardyce’s early success at the club.

Troy Deeney

One of Everton’s main issues this season has been the failure to replace striker Romelu Lukaku who departed to join Premier League rivals Manchester United in the summer. The 24-year-old had been Everton’s top scorer in each of the last four seasons, and it was therefore vital that they found an adequate replacement. However, they failed to do so, and this was, without doubt, a key reason behind Koeman’s eventual dismissal.

Allardyce has already stated that he will be looking to address this issue in January with Watford striker Troy Deeney believed to be on his radar. The 29-year-old is a fan’s favourite at Vicarage Road but has struggled to pin down a regular place in Marco Silva‘s starting line-up so far this season with the summer addition of Andre Gray placing him further down the pecking order. He is a very physical striker that would certainly suit Allardyce’s style of play, and he has a habit of finding the back of the net.
