With Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil already set to leave in January, Arsenal are bracing themselves for a tumultuous winter window. But if you’re going to lose your two best players anyway, why stop there? Why not make it a mass exodus that’ll undoubtedly leave the club in a better position than it was on December 31st. Arsenal have what you call ‘deadwood’ at the club, players that are taking up wages and won’t be used by the boss in any high-profile situations.

Here are three players Arsenal should sell in January.

3Calum Chambers

Calum Chambers Arsenal

A loan spell at Middlesbrough afforded Calum Chambers ample amounts of playing time last season, but clearly, that increased game time hasn’t brought him much favour in Arsène Wenger’s plans. In fact, the 22-year-old has only played 67 minutes of football this season. The only reason he’s still at the club is because the Gunners were on the verge of facing a CB crisis in the summer. However, as Shkodran Mustafi stayed, those fears went, and the importance of Chambers also went.

This is not to say that Calum Chambers isn’t a decent player, he is, but he’s not of the standard required by Arsenal. If the Gunners want to be challenging for titles, they cannot be relying on the quality of Calum Chambers. At best, Chambers is a tough-tackler and physically dominant defender, but even with that, he’s only one mistake away from costing his team precious points.
