The Bundesliga is still a few days away from kicking off, yet the 18 teams that make up this season’s German top-flight have spent a considerable sum. The league has averaged nearly £2 million spent per player. Borussia Dortmund currently lead the way with player recruitment, as the club attempt to close the gap on Bayern Munich. However, Bayern have also strengthened well, as have many of the other teams that will be making a run at European qualification this term.
Sports Courant looks at the five Bundesliga must watch transfers.
5. Mario Gotze – Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have bought back attacking midfielder Mario Gotze after three seasons with Bayern Munich. Dortmund originally sold the German for £31m, so the re-signing of Gotze for £19m represents good value for BVB should he perform as well as he did in his first spell at the club. Despite flashes of brilliance and 36 goals during his stay in Bavaria, Gotze was constantly in and out of the squad. Back at Dortmund, Gotze will have plenty to prove. He will have every chance to do so with the club that started his professional career.
